While you are in the process of applying to colleges, it is vital to go on college tours!

A college tour allows you to get an in-person feel for the campus! That is so important to make sure that you feel good about the college campus. It is going to be your home for the next four years, whether you are commuting or staying on or close to campus.

In this post, I have compiled a list of questions that you should ask during your college tour!

Why Did You Choose This College Over Others?

This is probably the first question you should ask during your college tour!

Most, if not all, campus tours are done by current students themselves. This is because students know the campus in and out and prospective students will feel more comfortable too.

This question allows you to gain insight into why this college was the chosen one for current students.

What Is Student Life Like?

Believe it or not, each college has its own distinctive student life. This is important to ask because as a student who is going to be on campus all the time, getting to know the environment is key!

What Are Some Important Resources on Campus?

Asking about what resources might be important and helpful around campus is necessary. As a student, campus is going to be your second home, and feeling lost is not pleasant.

While asking this question, also ask where they are located because getting around a college campus your freshman year can be difficult. It’s always helpful to know where resources are located.

What Are Some Go-To Food Spots, On or Off-Campus?

I am a really big foodie, so asking this comes as a no-brainer to me!

During the college tour, ask the guide where the cafeteria is. I say this because most freshmen are required to get a meal plan if they are dorming.

Additionally, it’s also good to ask what some are nearby fast-food options or go-to food spots! If you want to grab a quick bite or have lunch with your friends, this will come in handy! This will also be beneficial if you just want to try different types of food in the area.

How Do Students Get Around Campus?

Colleges differ greatly by size.

It’s always good to ask how students get around and travel. Be sure to ask about some off-campus transportation options as well as what students do just to get around within the college grounds.

What Are Some Fun Things To Do Off-Campus?

College is going to be your home away from home!

Being on campus 24/7 can get boring! Therefore, ask the student doing the tour what are some activities students do off campus for fun.

This will also help you get familiar with the town that the college is in. It also helps you see if it’s someplace you can imagine going to school.

Is Campus Safe? Especially at Night?

This question is one that I urge you to ask!

The last thing you want to do is find out once you are going to school that the campus isn’t as safe as you thought it would be.

On the college tour, ask what safety measures and protocols the college has and what you can do as a student if you feel like you are in danger.

Your parents will feel a lot better sending you to a college that they know won’t put you in harm’s way.

Where Are the Best Study Spots on Campus?

I asked this question in particular on my college tour and to my surprise, my tour guide told me a lot of amazing study spots that I otherwise wouldn’t have even known about!

I am a person who can’t study in my room, and if you are like me or want to change up your study spots every so often, ask your tour guide this.

Are Professors Easy To Connect With?

This is a really good question to ask on your campus tour since you want to make the most of your classes.

Ask your tour guide if professors are easy to get in touch with if you have questions on the class material or need help with a certain topic that is being covered.

What Academic Programs are Popular on Campus?

Obviously, you are going to want to go to college that matches what you want to study or pursue your Bachelor’s Degree in.

Ask about what are some popular majors or academic programs within the university.

This can come in handy when you are considering which college to commit to because you want to make sure your academic goals align with what the university can provide you. For example, you don’t want to put a college on the top of your list if it focuses more on business and you are considering a science major.

What Are The Best Dorms?

Most universities require that freshman dorm and some even require that second years have to dorm as well.

Ask your guide what some of the best dorms are and any tips they can give you that might help your chances of getting into them!

What Are The Best Off-Campus Apartments?

Once you are past your first few years of college, off-campus apartments may seem like a favorable option for you.

Ask your tour guide if they know any good off-campus apartments or what the university may offer. This is because a lot of universities do have resources where they help you get off-campus apartments and these tend to be close to campus so you don’t have a big commute.

Often times students neglect to ask this during the college tour but it’s an important question!

Class size is something you should consider as a factor in choosing which colleges you want to attend. Not a lot of students know this, but there is some preference they may have.

Depending on the type of learner you are, you want to go to a school that has larger class sizes if that is what you prefer and the same goes with if you like smaller class sizes.
