Do You Want The Senioritis Cure?
This is my second time around becoming a senior, so let me tell you, senioritis is as real as it gets, but I have the cure!
Currently, I am a senior in college, but I have lived through the era of being a senior in high school as well.
Let’s Define Senioritis
Senioritis can be defined as the lack of motivation and increase in procrastination in everything you do when you become a senior in high school or college (even your last year in grad school).
Senioritis is bound to happen since students are often so burnt out from previous school years. Its the last stretch before they are done with that specific chapter of their educational lives.
Going into high school and even college, I felt truly burnt out, and my procrastination increased a lot.
Not to mention, tons of students also are done or wrapping up their applications for undergraduate college or graduate colleges. This only contributes to the aftermath of the burnout being senioritis, especially the last half of senior year.
However, there are a few ways that definitely can help prevent senioritis from getting super bad or even prevent it altogether.
1. Get A Planner and Plan Out Your Days
It sounds simple, but it’s so effective! Get a planner and plan out your daily activities, such as homework, extracurriculars, things you need to get done around the house, etc. What helps me a lot is I check off the things that I get done, and it is so satisfying knowing I finished my to-do list for the day.
Writing down what you need to get done will help you tremendously and motivate you more. Not to mention, I often forget what I need to do or what homework I have, so this helps keep track of that.2.
2. Study Smart, Not More
Studying is the one thing that got affected the most when I started to procrastinate heavily. However, rather than spending hours just endlessly studying, I tried to study smarter rather than studying more. This helped my study habits, and I would spend less time aimlessly going through class material.

3. Take Breaks/Rewards Yourself
Taking breaks is something that I find is so underrated and beyond helpful. Taking breaks during studying and doing schoolwork helps you become more productive while reducing student burnout.
Whenever I finished work early, got a good test/quiz score, or wrapped up a big school project, I would reward myself. Everybody has their own rewards for themselves. I would go out with friends or treat myself to takeout or desert. Often I would also just shop lol!
4. Start A New Hobby/Activity
Sometimes during your senior year, you have more time on your hands since you may be taking fewer classes since it is your last year.
This may be the perfect time to start a new hobby or an activity! My senior year of high school was when I started my first job as a math tutor, and I loved it! It was an amazing way for me to use my free time and helped so much with time management skills!
5. Spend Time With Friends & Family
You may have extra time on your hands since it is your last year, and using it wisely is essential! Spend time with your friends before you head off to college or graduate school and make memories! The same goes with family and making the most of your time!
Senioritis can take away your time during senior year, but it’s your last year, so make the most of it!
